Hello, Neighbors Network Friends!
Happy “Love Your Neighbor” Month!
We at Neighbors Network are declaring February “Love Your Neighbor” month. Because we are lucky to have very special neighbors involved in this organization.
Being a good neighbor shows up in many ways. For example, the daughter of one of our Members told several people about Neighbors Network, and we received two new membership applications as a result. Her appreciation for what NN does for her mom grew into telling others about what is possible for them.
Members have met and become friends with other Members after meeting at NN functions. Some have stayed connected by phone. Some have offered to volunteer or donate, wanting to give back and help to expand what is possible for our Members and Neighbors Network.
And our Volunteers… what can we say about these amazing people without whom nothing would happen? As one Member said, “The volunteers are all such genuinely nice people who give of their time for us, and we’re strangers to them. It really is amazing to me and has made me feel good about being part of this wonderful organization.”
We love our neighborhood of nine zip codes… filled with some of the kindest, most compassionate, generous and committed people. Thank you for being a part of our neighborhood of friends, especially if you live beyond our service area!
What’s New
We’re pleased to introduce Kathleen Kelly, our new Volunteer Coordinator for Services. “Kat” is a retired schoolteacher and looks forward to getting to know the Members and Volunteers. Some may already know her as Annette Kelly’s daughter. Kat enjoys art, gardening, puzzles and Scrabble.
Kat took the place of Liz Rash. Liz did a wonderful job as Volunteer Coordinator-Services since Dec 2023 helping Members get things in their home fixed, organized, cleaned, replaced, etc. She is stepping away from this role, but we are glad she will continue to be involved as a Member. Liz started as a Volunteer in 2018. We appreciate all she has done for NN.
Meet our new visitor! Prince is a 15-pound certified therapy Shetland Sheepdog. He will sit quietly, listening as a Member talks with him and his owners, a 15-year-old high schooler and his mom, a NN Volunteer.
In his first visit with a NN member, Prince got so comfortable listening to them talk, he rested his head next to the Member’s foot on the floor. His beautiful blue eyes surely melt hearts, but he’s not allowed on the Member’s lap or on the furniture. We’re glad he wants to visit older adults!

For Members
Shredding Pickup – A benefit of Neighbors Network membership is having confidential papers picked up for shredding at a professional shredder. NN pays for this service, scheduled two or three times a year. This month, one of our vetted Volunteers will pick up bagged and boxed papers from the Members who signed up for it, and she will take them to be shredded that afternoon.
Spotlight on Volunteers
Christine enjoys driving Members to their appointments and other places. She’s a full-time realtor, on the Executive Board for the Maitland Chamber of Commerce, has an 86-year-old father and a teenager involved with sports.
Christine is a good listener. She picks up on topics of interest to those she drives. She says, “It’s a privilege to get to know different people. The members will talk while I’m driving, and we cover
a variety of topics. I look forward to seeing them again to continue conversations they started last time. For instance, H likes to talk about 70’s rock music, P loves to read, and we enjoy some of the same authors. F likes to talk about politics. I’m glad to talk with them about whatever they want to talk about. When I picked up D the first time, I realized I sold the condo she lives in to her daughter a few years ago when she bought it to move her mother closer. I had no idea I’d ever meet her mom.
It’s a small world!”
