December 2024

Hello, Neighbors Network Friends

Celebrating during this holiday season – and any time during the year – is all about caring and connection. That’s what we do for our wonderful Members, with the help of our dedicated Volunteers and Donors. We are grateful to you, our dear friends of Neighbors Network, for caring about older adults who want to continue living independently in their home, safely and confidently. Your support means so much.

Here’s our news for December. Hope you enjoy it.

What’s New

On TV
Spectrum News 13 did a piece about Neighbors Network titled “Central Florida Neighbors Network providing community, connection and support for seniors.” It was aired all day on Nov 22. You can watch (or read) it here. Click in the photo to see the video.

Brochure
We have a new brochure! Word of mouth has been our most powerful way to connect with new Members, Volunteers and Donors, and we would love your help spreading the word. We’ll gladly mail you as many as you like. The best locations for them are the ones where you already have connections, like your friends and places you frequent, i.e., hair and nail salons, other businesses, medical offices, churches and synagogues, etc. Think of people 55+ as well as those younger with aging loved ones. Getting brochures out into our service area would be tremendously helpful. Want one or more? Contact Mary@NeighborsNetworkFL.org.

Fun with Members

Every month, our dedicated Bake & Take Team of Volunteers bakes and delivers a small, homemade birthday cake and card to each Member on their birthday.

Members have said it’s a real treat because they haven’t had a home baked anything in years, especially a cake baked just for them. This special cake delivery is a favorite for Members and Volunteers. Such a delightful way to spread joy throughout the year.  For Members who are gluten free or careful about their sugar intake, the Volunteers are glad to bring a different kind of treat.

Upcoming

We’re planning our semi-annual get together of Members and Volunteers in January at the home of one of our Volunteers. These gatherings are so much fun, Members and Volunteers chit chatting, enjoying some nibbles and each other’s company. It may be corny to say, but a good time is had by all.

Spotlight on Donors

This month we are pleased to spotlight the Winter Park Health Foundation, our founding donor. A friend of NN since 2013, the WPHF generously provided funding to reach out to their communities of focus: Winter Park, Maitland and Eatonville.

When WPHF Executive Vice President Deb Watson was asked why they support NN, she said, “We are proud to be a supporter because the services, activities and programs provided by Neighbors Network’s vetted volunteers improve the health and wellbeing of older adults in our community, often eliminating loneliness, isolation, and lack of connection, which the U.S. Surgeon General and public health professionals refer to as an epidemic.”

Recently, WPHF funded a grant to provide NN memberships for low-income older adults in Eatonville and surrounding communities. We are forever grateful to them for their continued support.

Thank You

We truly appreciate your interest in Neighbors Network and our mission to help older adults remain living independently in their home, active and connected. We welcome your questions and comments.

In the months to come, we will share more of what Neighbors Network is all about. Our goal is for you to get to know us better and hopefully tell your friends and neighbors about us. They’re welcome to sign up to receive NN News at the bottom of any page in our website.

Our wish for you this month is many moments of joy. Some totally unexpected. See you in January when we will spotlight one of our Members.
