When Annette Kelly told me she was starting a nonprofit focused on helping older adults to continue living independently in their homes with the help of vetted volunteers for tasks they can no longer do or do safely, I was intrigued and committed to help. My mother had died a few years earlier. I knew how important living independently was to her and helped her to do that for years after my father died. Alzheimer’s eventually interfered with her ability to live alone. 

I’ve been involved with Neighbors Network since the beginning, serving on the Advisory Council, then the Board, doing what I can for Members along the way. I love working with our Members and Volunteers, getting to know them and their needs, goals and preferences. 

Whenever I get down about some of the upsetting things happening in this country and the world, I think of the good people involved with Neighbors Network. It always lifts my spirits. The Volunteers and Members are the salt of the earth. I believe there are many like them in every community – good, honest, caring, empathetic, thoughtful, generous, kind, creative, giving of themselves and their talents in ways that build and strengthen their communities. Mostly with no attention or fanfare. 

I am proud of the positive impact Neighbors Network has on the lives of Volunteers and Members and all who are touched by it. I look forward to our continued growth.
