Neighbors Network Volunteers to Help Hang Holiday Lights This Season
(November 20, 2014 – Winter Park, FL) Neighbors Network, the local volunteer services organization assisting seniors who wish to enjoy living in their own homes as they grow older, will begin to help with holiday decorating Thanksgiving weekend.
“Many seniors would love to display lights or favorite decorations for the holidays, but many find it difficult as they get older,” says Annette Kelly, PhD, ARNP, Advisory Council Chair of Neighbors Network. “For those in the Network, our volunteers will be able to help them create a holiday environment by taking care of that task.”
An initiative funded by the Winter Park Health Foundation, Neighbors Network is based on the nationally acclaimed Beacon Hill Village in Boston. Neighbors Network memberships, for as little as a dollar day, can be given as gifts by adult children to their parents. The program is designed to give adult children peace of mind knowing that mom and dad are receiving a helping hand by a network of neighborhood volunteers when they are not around.
Some of the other volunteer services that can be requested by members include light garden maintenance, household organization, computer support, home paperwork filing, pet sitting, reading/sorting mail, personal visits, grocery shopping, personal correspondence and household tasks. Neighbors Network also offers social activities for members. Neighbors Network is currently operating in Maitland, Winter Park, Eatonville and close-by neighborhoods.
